Default Any experience with writing groups?

I'm in the process of forming my own writing group - things are still in the early stages (we haven't had our first meeting yet - just web based for now - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/PhiladelphiaWritersGuild/ ). I would really be interested in hearing about any writing groups experience that you may have. You'll have my eternal gratitude.

Cheers

Some of the best writing groups offer opportunities to get feedback from professionals and publishers of one sort of another. I have found them to be a great way to make contacts and get good feedback on my work.

Does your group have any offline gatherings?

Our 1st offline meeting is to be held on February 8th in the Barnes & Nobles Cafe at 2PM.

Since this is our first meeting I really don't know who is going to show up. I just want to be prepared for anything that may occur. I do have some degree of optimism - the group really has creative promise.

There may also be some professional opportunities to be found within our existing membership. A few editors, publishers (small press), and professional writers have introduced themselves. I'm really not sure what their future contribution will be, but....

Default best intentions fizz

writing groups are tough since the practice is such a solitary effort. Most writers are not the best conversationalists, don't interact well with others, are afraid that you are stealing their ideas....yadda yadda
