I have found a new maker of a new 12 watt L.E.D. recessed light that I like. I'm looking for a client willing to test them out. They can replace existing 6 inch lights and look way better then fluorescent lighting options. The will save money in the long run over incandescent lighting but are pricey up front.

i read that the problem with led bulbs is that if you don't have some kind of heat sink the chips burn out early. so just putting one in as a replacement for a regular bulb may not work very well? you might need to replace the thing the bulb goes into?
I have a lot of 4" track lighting type spots in a high ceiling that I would definately like to replace with led. I think they typically use 1/2 the power of CFLs and last a lot longer too (properly cooled of course). and if you break one you won't be sucking mercury fumes either. I have not yet dimmed this fixture myself. I am told that it can be dimmed to 80% but not less. That is the range you find in CFLs. The old incandescents dim down a 100%. I was also told that you should only use certain brand dimmers.
They cost are about $135 per existing 6 inch recessed light. If a recessed light needs to be add that will also factor into the price. They are by no means cheep but new technologies rarely are. As a new source of lighting I do find the quality of light given off is better the CFL and the power consumption is much less. I don't know if there a return on investment at the current price. They will use much less electricity then standard light and that should save money. I don't know much about the heat sinks of LED lights. That would explain the design of this light. The makers added a large area of aluminum fins. I guess that is for the heat sink. I have ran the light for over 24 hours strait an then felt it for heat. It was only mildly warm. I don't know of a track version yet but I will post about it if I fine one. I do buy these type of products and give them a test run before I start to offer them to clients. This is the 8th LED light I looked at and the first one that I think is any good. I still don't trust it 100% so I am look for people with a wish to make a greener world and a willingness to take a chance with a new lighting product.
