Default RiverLoft at 2300 Walnut

I'm transferring to my company's Philly office (at Curtis Center) in August and need to rent an apartment. I found RiverLoft at 2300 Walnut Street from www.rentnet.com. Is the area safe? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!!!

Might be helpful to know why yer coming to Philly (i.e. student at one of the many universties, job in center city, etc)
Also what you are looking for in Housing.

THe address you list (23rd and Walnut) is IMHO Upper Fitler Square / along the river. Very convenient to UPenn/Drexel.
Closest grocery store is either the Whole Foods across Market or maybe one of the local Rittenhouse area (smaller) grocerey stores.

I dont live there so I cant say - but IMHO its one of the "safer" areas of the city (compared to say... oh South Greys Ferry area or North/NW of Girrard College). There are a number of apt bldgs in the area (say the one at the bottom of Locust St) as well as easy access to the new-ish River trail extension. As far as I can guess its a high rise apartment building.

The riverloft is in a very safe neighborhood but not too convenient to Curtis Center. The building is nice enough but the area is sort of on the edge of town. Only thing close by is a riteaid drugstore, a gas station minimart, a health club and a bar. That probably sounds bad but it is really a nice area, just not in the thick of the action. I can think of a few hundred buildings that would be better for one reason or another. That rentnet doesn't seem to comprehensive. Where are you coming from?

...and a coffee shop that just opened in recent weeks in the long-empty building by the Walnut St bridge.

I would say this is very much more University City than Fitler Square.

My wife works in the curtis center...

If you wnated to be a bit easier to work I woudl look at Old City and Society Hill, Penns Landing, Washington West.

The budget apartments are taken up by students - beat them to it by signing the lease in July August (oops July is almost over!)

This apartment compex is right next door...

Might be a bit much.

Other neat places are in Old City or along Penn's landing (water views!)

I'm from Chicago (actually from Evanston where Northwestern University is). My significant other will work at 1818 Market Street in Philly. Do you have any recommendation for a place that's convenient for both of us. Our budget is below $1,800 (safety is first, after that we prefer a loft).

University City is west of the river.
