Well I got the apartment... $1700 a month... 2bedroom unit on 8th floor--- the construction is NOT bad...they are only painting and putting in fixtures and whatnot...and thats only from 5th floor and below---so the only people that would hear anything(which would only be drills and light hammering) would be the people on 6th floor..... as far as bus terminal... that would only be people on the lower levels that face that.... I am not facing that....nor did I even notice a smell.... however, I dont mind the sounds....I LOVE CITIES...and to hear the sounds of cities...makes me feel safe... I enjoy the sounds...atleast I am not beside a train! hahahahaha... now the only thing I am interested in...is the history of the building...

i heard numerous bad things about this place a while back. from what i remember:

1. the walls are pretty thin...you can hear your neighbor
2. the construction is a very piecemeal process. the owner(s) of the property do not have the money to finish the whole building at one time. it's a "convert as they lease" kind of thing. so construction may drag on for a while.
3. something else about stains on the carpet (due to a leak?)

i have never heard bad things about this place...I have had 2 people go at different times to look at the place...they said it was BEAUTIFUL...I have even talked to other prospective tenants there...even to buy...how can there be stains on the carpet? There isnt carpet in the units...its all hardwood floors... and the construction is done...all they are doing are painting the rest of the units and hallways and putting in fixtures.... I am VERY happy with the results...

My friend who checked it out also said it was gorgeous. I wouldn't be surprised if the thin-walls thing was true, though. I noticed in one of the pictures my friend sent that in the closet, they had one of those cheap wire shelves you can get at Home Depot--no rod for clothes, no wooden shelf, just the cheap wire shelf. It gave me the impression that they're stinting on the things that aren't immediately visible and spending their money on the more superficial pretty things. That gave me pause.

hey, bganderson... the link you just put on your last entry...i went to it... look at the dates...it was 2003 when that cache started.... plus.... that building was used as commercial.... so now that its converted...there are hardwoods in EVERY apartment to be lived in... however 1st floor will be used for commercial, considering the Asian Bank is still there... as for the thin walls...that's just something i will have to deal with.... its an old building... and I dont expect EVERYTHING to be perfect....and i am just renting... if I was buying it may be a different story...I dont care about cheap wire racks in my closets... noone will see them.... I would prefer my visible things be nicer.... no offense....

That was exactly my point about the closet shelves--no one will see them, so they went cheap, but you'll still have to use them and you won't have a rod for your hanging clothes. It seemed symptomatic of a lack of concern with the everyday details that residents have to live with. Every place has assets and deficits, and this one is no exception. We were very, very close to renting a place there, too, but for us, the deficits and lack of answers outweighed the many assets...you have different priorities and needs, and there is nothing wrong with that.

That rubber coated wire shelving, from which you can hang hangers, is cheaper then a closet pole? Of course the units were designed to sell, not rent, so the owner would have the option of changing the closets to suit their own taste.

Default What was 1010 Arch Street before it is what is today?

Hey... as you know I am the one that began to ask question about this property... and some of you know that I actually got a unit in that building... a kick ass place on the 8th floor... move in August 15th! So anyways.. I am not from Philly, so I was wondering if anyone has pictures of the building or know where I can see it... and if anyone can tell me what the building used to be... its now The Lofts at Winston... I know there's the Asian Bank in the building, its been there awhile...I know some realty places...and the internet shows it used to have a rest home in there too... along with some small businesses... but I wanted to know the DEEP history... someone told me it's haunted.. hahahahah!
