Thumbs up Apartments in Center City (Rittenhouse, Old City, Society Hill, Wash. Sq., Chinatown)

I am looking for some really nice apartments in center city (along with a house too). In university city I saw the left bank apartments (http://www.leftbankapts.com/) The amenities seem so darn nice. They are by the same developers as locust on the park, I think. Hawthorne Suites sounds nice too.

Anyone here in a high rise? I have kind of always liked a house, but some of the amenities in the apartment communities are so attractive.
There were a few suggestions:

Packard Bldg is nice, close to center city, affordable for a high rise. The Metropolitan is very nice. Looked at it but didn't bite. I live in a Historic Landmarks Bldg and like it. $500 gift cert. to move in, reduced sec. deposit. Also, garage downstairs, W/d, doorman (great for deliveries and Fliks Video). they have monthly happy hours at new spots where you get free drinks, food, or half price drinks. Also, discounts on things like a beer festival (410 instead of $25), Cirque du Soleil, opera, and Pocono getaways. It is rumored that there is a sixer or two in the Packard...probably in a bilevel. Ooh yeah, free month's rent for chancellor properties bldg's.

Depends on how much you are willing to spend. Society Hill towers is nice, Abbotts Square Apts. on 2nd & south are also nice, and in the middle of a pretty good area. Both are pricey but gives you a few new names to consider. OLD CITY also has a number of converted buildings that are very nice. look at the Weekly Paper it usually carries all of the mentioned places.
More suggestions?

Default Affordable apartments in center city??

What is the likelihood of finding a decent 1 bedroom apartment in Center City for around $700 - $800 a month price range? I heard Filter Square is pretty decent but not sure about the cost of living...

thanks...

1) are you a driver or a walker?
2) depends on waht decent is. you shoudl be able to find a smallish 1br for that price. i recomend fitler square or, more especially, wash. sq. west. both are quiet but washington square west is more central to more happening neighborhoods. plus pine street is pretty cool with its oddball stores and antique shops.

thanks for the repsonse.

1) I will keep my truck, but I would want to rely more on public transit to get around town and to work.

2) I'm not too picky or prudish about where I live as long as it's pretty safe, quite and kept up half way decent.

There are places available but you're pushing into the low end of the market- lots of turnover, and you're going to be in competition with college kids from Penn and Temple.

You'll probably be looking at flats in condo'd out hotels, some apartment buildings, might find a few rowhomes that have been split into 2 apartments outside the highrise area.

There are failry consistent rentals around the medical establishments- near Jefferson near 10th and south of Locust, over towards Graduate Hospital on South Street, up outside Chinatown by Haheuneman.

Um, it's gonna cost you $$ to keep a truck in Philly, unless it's a small truck. You're not likely to get off street parking for the price you've quoted, that means competiting with your neighbors for a place to park. That's a pain, around the 3rd time you go circling the block looking for a parking space you'll be rethinking that truck idea.

thanks for the 411...

well, if i saw an apartment that i really like and it happened to be above my $800, i'd probably still take it. $800 is the highest for me idealy, but a thousand would be the absolute most i could spend before i would start having to rob liquor stores to make the rent...

as for my truck, it's just a little ford ranger. and since i would want to visit my family in upstate NY often, i would definitly want to hold on to it.

I would suggest the Fairmount/Art Museum area. Cheaper rents, easier parking on the streets than Fitler Sq., close to the expressway, and transit systym.

Default Affordable Apartments in Rittenhouse Square area

Is it me, or have the rental prices in Philadelphia gone through the roof? I was wondering can anyone recommend a decent building that is in the range of $1,000 per month to $1,400 per month, that is not owed by Philadelphia Management, or a website that could show different parts of the city with rental prices in this range?
