Default handgun ranges in Philly

[Yes, ha ha -- "all of Philadelphia is a handgun range!" I made the obvious joke for you. ]

So seriously: I want to learn handgun safety. Can anyone recommend a handgun range in the city?

i was lucky enough to be treated to a lesson and some shooting for my birthday at the shooting range on front street near reed or dickenson.

i will tell you three things i learned:

1. i dont like guns.
2. people who like guns make me uncomfortable.
3. i dont like guns.

There's the one on Front St, one on Ellsworth off of 9th and I think the gun shop on Spring Garden has a range as well.

The gun nuts should be along to help you shortly.

Firing Line - 1532 South Front St

South Philly Gun and Archery - http://philadelphiaarcheryandgunclub.com/

For the love of god don't go near Colosimo's

And if Southampton isn't too far Classic Pistol is the best indoor range around.

Default Best way to protect yourself.

All of the statistics show that gun owners are much more likely to be killed by the gun they keep in their own home, than by any other gun. If you want to learn gun safety, the safest thing is not to own a gun.

By that logic I should not take simming lessons at the Y, for fear that I might drown in a river

The guy never said he had a gun. Way to bring up your opinion that has nothing to do with the question.

Doggonit, you stole my joke!

I opened this thread to suggest a couple districts in North Philly.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I was hoping to stay in Philadelphia proper, so I'll check out a few of those places in South Philly.

And to nip this in the bud so it doesn't turn into a 20-page debate on gun control: I never said I wanted to own a gun (in fact, I don't). I never said this desire for knowledge had anything to do with "personal safety." I just think that knowing how to operate a firearm safely is one of those things that everyone should know how to do, just in case one is in a position that requires it (like in a zombie attack, for example.)

YES! tenzo for the win. As with most things in life, education is the key.

kindly let us know what's good when you go, as I've also been looking for a good place to shoot.
