Default Good Thai food?

Hello all, moved in to CC over the weekend, 17th and Lombard. Is there a good Thai restaurant nearby? Take out is fine.

I am also a big fan of Vietnamese and Malaysian cuisines. Please let me know if you know any of those nearby as well.

Thanks to everyone in advance !!

Bodhi.

There's a small place at 18th and Walnut right across 18th from Barnes and Noble that people seem to like. I've never tried it though.

You're thinking of Pad Thai Shack - it's a take out place. http://www.padthaishack.com/

I think there is another one on 12th between Sansom and Walnut.

It's ok, I guess.

other favorites:

trio - around 26th and brown - cute upscale BYO with rooftop dining. reccomendations: beggars pouches, drunken noodles

erawan - 23rd and sansom - BYO again. recommend: erawan noodles!

smile cafe - 22nd and chestnut - BYO. pretty similar to erawan IMO. gorgeous abstract art inside painted by one of the waiters.

honorable mentions:
pad thai
tamarind (both near 2nd and south)
place in reading terminal (same owner as erawan)
siam cuisine in chinatown

not a fan of any of the west phila thai places, or siam lotus on spring garden.

still need to try my thai. they are always closed when i go!

just gotta voice my opinion, that place is godawful! i'm wondering if there are any thais on this board who could confirm my suspicions that there is not a dab of authenticity to this place. there's certainly no deliciousness.

You have to go across town for great Vietnamese or Malaysian, but it is well worth the walk for:

Vietnam -- On 11th between Race and Vine
Penang -- 10th between Arch and Race
Aqua -- corner of 7th and Chestnut

Happy eating!

I definitely recommend Smile Cafe. Great food for a decent price.
