Default Locks of Love?

Does anyone know of any Locks of Love participating salons in Philly that will give you a free haircut? I know that the Hair Cuttery and Great Clips participate, but I think they still make you pay. I know there are some out there that do it for free and take care of all the legwork for you, i.e. wrapping it and mailing it in. Anyway, I thought someone out there might have a good place to recommend, because I am considering chopping off my hair for the summer. I figured I might as well send it to someone who needs it.

Thanks!

It's great that you want to donate, but locks of love actually has more hair donations than they can handle. Some of it gets thrown away. If you would really like to help out, many salons have "cut a thons" where the stylists cut hair for the day and then a portion, or all of the proceeds are then donated to various causes. I think that the big charity most are donating to right now is City of Hope Charities which gives money to cancer and juvenile diabetes research.

I think that the city of hope website gives info on participating salons. I know that East End Salon had considered participating. I'm not sure if they have committed, though.

Jason at Tabu on 3rd in Old City is looking for a hair model to cut and I think he said highlight her hair. I would assume this is free too.

Several years ago, I donated a pony tail through Locks of Love. At the time, their website had a list of salons nationwide that would cut your hair for free, then send the donation to Locks of Love. But it seems their program has changed...the last time I looked, there was no listing of salons.

Pantene has a program called "Beautiful Lengths". According to the website, donations are made into wigs for cancer patients, and distributed through select American Cancer Society wig banks. The next time I make a "pony tail" donation, I think I'll probably donate through Pantene.

Also, if you are looking for a free haircut, I think that Head Area either does them for free or cheap on the days they have classes if you agree to be a model. You have to agree to drastically change your look, and it definitely takes longer than a typical hair appointment will. Check their website, which I think is headarea.com for model dates and sign ups.
