I love Sq on Sq and agree all their dishs are delicious.....but I have never thought of it as a traditional, columnA/columnB Chinese resturant. Maybe Asian Fusion? My favorite Chinese is JoJo's Place next to the former Wawa at 20th and Chestnut. And that palace place across from CVS is the worst although it's been there for years.

Haha......just goes to show you, that's the one I thought was the worst. Chinese food is like pizza and coffee......very subjective. I imagine you could eat at at different Chinese resturant every day of the year in CC and never hit the same place twice. I would also expect the best to be in Chinatown but I have never tried one there.

around rittenhouse I agree for "american chinese" Square on Square is best.
In china town for the real thing - I know Fritz Blanc used to go to one - Ocean something - i will check on the exact name and location - and get back to you. that was the real deal - if you knew how to order and didn't get the american menu.

Ocean Harbor, between 10th and 11th on the north side of Race. That's not a bad place to start. Try the dim sum (chinese lunch, daily from 11am-2pm I think). It's the most popular spot for it in Philly and they are tasty and pretty cheap.

That's where I found the bobcat nail/joint/knucke in my house special lo mein. i really liked that place too until that happened. Now I can't order lo mein anymore no matter where it is.
