*Shield your eyes*. Some people are not Christian. They might have horns growing from their heads.

This is the first time I have ever heard of tipping these people and I've been living
in a condo for a long time.

Well, in my building I'm NOT tipping them. They barely do what they are
supposed to and I'm going to give them something extra for yakking
on cell phones when they are suppose to be watching our building
camera monitors for instance?!

I don't get the whole tipping thing actually......

If I see a person in the street having problems carrying bags while trying to enter a car, I might offer my help, It's common courtesy, I don't expect to receive money for it.

I'd be rich already if I got a tip for everytime I opened doors, hold doors opened, hold elevators, etc..at completely strangers on a day to day basis.....

I don't live in a condo, and this "doormen" stuff is new to me (back home in southamerica there's no such job), but I guess he gets paid for doing that, right?...thats his job....so why tip him?

Now, I'm not cheap at all, it's not that, I do tip waitress' etc, and 20% all the time (my math is 10% for service and 10% for tip), however, even though I tip all the time at restaurants, etc...I also wonder why?...don't they have a wage? (im not sure how the rest/bar etc business is)

At least in every restaurant ive ever worked at, servers and bartenders do get paid, but its a tiny hourly wage (something like 2.35 an hour) that is only really so they count as employees. The vast majority of the pay is expected to come from tips.

$1500.00 a month, are you serious, in this market? You could get a helluva lot more for less. I puechased my home 12 years ago, it was a forclosure, im not saying how much but, my mortgage inc taxes and insurance is about $800 a month. Dude/dudette bail out of that condo, get smart and get a real home!
