It could be the opposite. Sometimes our lives are so full and busy and even though we are thankful for that and the family and friends in our lives, sometimes it may be nice just to sit alone and chill with our own thoughts. Its rejuvenating.

Rittenhouse is OVER... too many rules, too many bums. We go to Washington Square and actually play frisbee and ride our bikes into the square and are not accosted for money by bums. Franklin Square is pretty sweet too and is right there by Old City so I can get my Old City coffee and walk over. Just whiling away some time in a square is great... used to just relax in Russell Square in London just the same.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the Robert Downey Sr. film RITTENHOUSE SQUARE which is a doc on the square that deals with, among other things, why people sit and watch other people in the park.

It's so overrated!! I've walked through the park but never had the luxury of actually sitting in the park because it's always overcrowded.
I prefer Washington square because one, it's so big that it can accomodate everyone, two, it doesn't have homeless people (at least none that I've seen), and three, it's just a couple of blocks form z place!! I feel Wash's more comfy and a lot less uptighty than Ritten.

As for watching other people, that's what I do most of the time, not so much people as dogs though. But it's interesting to watch people, especially when you're a counselor... When the weather's nice and I have nothing to do, park is a better option than watching TV or playing video games. Can't do this all year 'round afterall!!

awrity...I'm on my way to the park then....

always love your posts. we seem to agree a lot.

yes, i love Washington Sq as well for exactly those reasons. Ritt Sq is nice too and I have sat on one of those benches and enjoyed a little time, but you're correct, sometimes it gets too busy and it's got more bums. Washington Sq has those nice tall leafy trees and the views are just as lovely as Ritt Sq, IMO.

To me, both are nice places, Wash Sq just a bit nicer and quieter.

Anyone here like Kahn Park? It's really a pocket park, very small. But it's nice in its own way, specially for Wash West neighborhood (i think that's where it is).

Kahn park's in the same block so I pass that everytime I go to CVS, or grocery stores on south. Unfortunately, that one has bums too...and weird pee smell at times. Just the other day, I saw this bum putting his bourbon bottle in his trashbag after taking a chug...

Too much concrete. There are trees and planters but no grass. It's nice to have a little pocket of public space there but it's an awkward setup that doesn't feel very park-like. I really like Jefferson's new park at 10th and Locust. Kahn Park could take some ques from them and apply it on a smaller scale.

I know many people like that- and most of them don't seem to have too much going on in their brains if they aren't externally entertained.

Not to mention, a lot of people have now grown up in an environment where they were carted to and from more appointments and activities as kids than I've had as an adult; they end up not knowing how to be alone with "nothing" to do.
lol
