I should also mention that Stephen is very good and he will work with your schedule, if you can't make it till a certain time he will take you. Also, if you can't make it till after they close, he will stay late. I have horrible hair, it is flat, thin and has its own ideas of where it should go. He is the only person who makes it look good. Well Lee too.

Yeah, I too have been seeing Lee since he was at East End, and my only complaint about him or HeaD AreA is that he's gotten so popular and it takes much longer to get an appointment! But it is definitely worth it to plan ahead.

But yes, as others have noted, pretty much everyone at HeaD AreA is great -- Lee has very high standards for whom he hires.

That's great to know - sounds like I need to book now. How would you compare Lee, JoJo and Stephen as far as their technique and style?

I've only ever gotten a cut with Lee, but I've also seen Stephen, JoJo, and everyone else there work, and I'd say the quality of what they put out is uniformly excellent.

I think that Lee's schedule might be easing up a bit for the summer -- I called last week and got an appointment in the middle of June. Maybe it helps if your schedule is flexible?

Truly the most talented, innovative, and creative stylist I've ever seen is Tami at Ruth Daneman on E. Passyunk Ave.

There are a lot of other really good stylists in the city, but she is truly the best.

Are their styles different in any way? Are they known for different cuts? How do they compare in the way they work with clients? How do their prices compare?

Again, I've only ever been cut by Lee, so I can't really speak to the specific strengths or styles of Stephen and JoJo. I just know that their clients always walk out looking great.

Really I'd recommend that you stop by the salon -- everyone's friendly, and you can get answers to all your questions. I'm not 100% sure but I think Lee is actually requiring (or at the very least urging) a quick preliminary consultation for all his new clients anyway.

I believe Lee is the most expensive at $75 and the others are slightly cheaper.

Good luck!

Would I feel out of place at Ruth Daneman's? I am over 60 and sometimes feel embarrassed going into trendy salons and stores. I always feel I am too old and not hip anymore.....

Not at all. The place is extremely relaxed. The clientele is very mixed. I see young hipster chicks, as well as a good number of women from 50-80. It's been in the neighborhood for 15 years, so there are a lot of local people come in frequently.
