The official email:

Quote:
Today is the opening day of the City Hall Farmers’ Market! Every Wednesday, through October, local farmers will be in the City Hall courtyard selling local food and goods.

City Hall Farmers’ Market
City Hall Courtyard
Wednesdays, 12-6pm

Be sure to stop by the City Hall courtyard today - and every Wednesday - for fresh produce, baked goods, cut flowers, local meat, and more. Fruitwood Orchards, Dancing Hen Farm and Pumpkin Ridge Creations will be there today to kick-off the season. The market will be growing with the season, with additional farmstands being added throughout the summer.

The City Hall Farmers’ Market is a partnership between the City of Philadelphia and Farm to City. Together, with our community partners, we support access to fresh, healthy and local food options.

For more information on Farmers’ Markets in neighborhoods across Philadelphia:
Farm to City: www.farmtocity.org
The Food Trust: www.thefoodtrust.org
Also, don't forget the fresh food available every day of the week at the Reading Terminal Market: www.readingterminalmarket.org

Sincerely,

Mayor Michael Nutter

Small selection. Kind of disappointing. Lots of strawberries if that's what you're into.

Just wait. Its too early in the season for local farmers to have much more than honey, asparagus and strawberries. The leafy greens will come out in a few weeks, followed by gorgeous tomatoes and peppers and so on. The sweet spot will be between mid-july to mid-sept.
