Default Mama Palma's fire

Anyone have any details on the fire at Mama Palma's Pizza (23rd & Spruce)? Not certain if it was yesterday or Friday morning.

I'd guess it was on Friday. I walked by around noon Saturday and it was already boarded up, post-fire.

Saw a lot of smoke from that area yesterday morning (Saturday) around 9am. Didn't realize it was MPs!

I live across the street from Mama Palmas. I was just getting up around 8AM Saturday morning when I heard an alarm down the street. Five minutes later 5+ fire trucks filled Spruce between 22nd and 23rd and on 22nd and 23rd street.

Smoke poured out of the basement primarily from a cellar door. Fireman climbed ladders to all of the windows to make sure the building was vacated. The smoke did not smell like yummy pizza, more like caustic plastic.

The FD seemed to be able to put the fire out pretty fast and I am pretty sure no one was hurt (no ambulances speeding away).

What a great restaurant with great food! I hope they return soon.

Only problem is...does this mean the prices will be even higher after reopening? Oy.

it's hard to tell from the posts of witnesses how bad the damage is-- can someone please provide more description?

Is this "tear-the-building-down" kind of damage or "fumigate-and-repaint" damage ??

Probably fumigate and replace every single 2nd and 3rd story window, since, per standard procedure, the FD knocked 'em all out to ventilate.

walked by about 30 minutes ago and they were taking a sledgehammer to the floor, so hopefully replacing the floor doesn't take too long.

I went by it today, it seems that they need to do mayor interior renovation, they where removing the floor tiles and partition walls. But I looking at the damages it doesn't seen that the fire cause any structure failure.

Let's hope that they (owner of mama palma) can get their restaurant back and back to business, do you know what cause the fire

A.
