The recently-shuttered Loehmann's location is quite large, but perhaps part of it could be an Apple store. Hope springs eternal, but often dries up.
But how could they keep safe from the school kids who make that block so miserable in the first place?
Talk about shrinkage......everything would have to be behind bullit proof glass.

I'm curious - are Apple stores really about selling product or more about advertising? The handful that I've been to seem to be full of people looking at stuff, but not full of people buying stuff. Could make sense from Apple's standpoint - huge buzz is created and people buy online etc.

I wonder if the crowds are decpetive like they can be in coffee shops - people nursing the $3 latte they bought an hour ago.

Great point! I exploit their computers for Internet on a whim, but I never buy anything there - and I think lots of people do the same. The KOP store does seem to get mobbed with people buying stuff at weekends, but there seem to be just as many people "just lookin'" - aka - checking email.

That's definitely true ... a lot of people are "just looking." But I also see a surprising number of people walking out with Apple bags. Those aren't all multi-hundred-dollar iPods or multi-thousand-dollar computers, but enough of them are that they're profitable. And also, a significant percentage of those people are in there for service, which Apple charges for, whether in the form of fees or AppleCare plans.

It's going to be a Modell's.

Apple does the highest dollar volume per square foot of retail space in the US: $4000/sq. ft. That's better than Tiffany's. So, yeah, lots of people buy stuff there!
