Federated screwed Philadelphia, frankly, by not giving us a Bloomingdale's in the Wanamaker Building (that Lord & Taylor did do well in that location) and putting Macy's in the S&C Building. And let's not start that whole fiasco of the housewares section here. Idiots!!!!

When did Wal*Mart start installing genius bars in its stores?

Here's a few snips from ifoapplestore.com.

Apple uses two key pieces of information to help site its retail stores: the registered user list, and the ZIPcode of customers at existing Apple retail stores.

also:

* the number of current stores in the state
* the metro area's population
* the presence of a large university (5,000 students or more)
* the presence of Interstate highways in the area
* the % of Internet use within the state
* the metro area's median household income

In Pittsburgh the Apple Store (yes they have one) is next door to a big honking RiteAid. Okay, there is a Williams Sonoma a few doors away.

So in this particular case, Apple's method for choosing store locations just completely malfunctioned. Not that I care.

I think Phillys downtown is great enough to support an Apple store. Not that its really important to me but if Pittsburgh got one, what gives?

The metro is represented fairly well with 5 stores(KOP,Ardmore,Cherry Hill,Marlton,Christiana De., but not having an Apple Store inside the city itself is pretty unique. Every major city in the country has a city store except Philadelphia,Baltimore,Detroit,Cleveland,and Minneapolis.

To be fair, though it is within the city limits, Pittsburgh's is not located in the downtown proper, but rather in the tony Shadyside district, about a 20 min drive away.
