You have to read back in the thread. It's not that they can get anything diffrerent. It's their sense of entitlement. It's so out of control that they don't feel public transportation pertains to them. 20 minutes on the R5 to Ardmore isn't convienent enough for people who think they are so important that Apple should come to them instead of the other way around. Stuff like buses and trains are too inconvienent and are mainly used by icky working class people and unhip suburbanites. Like, so gross.

REI at that location was actually a good re-use, and REI didn't come aboard until much after Zagara's had closed. On the other hand, The Zagara's site in Mt.Laurel, which was also in an upscale center with Borders and Ann Taylor Loft, become an L.A. Fitness location. That was with ~2 yr. vacancy atleast. Anytime a gym replaces something, yes its better than vacancy, but its a notch down in use. You know it. I think there was one-two other Zagara's location, but I don't think in So. NJ. I think the land of where the two new plazas: Marlton Square and the Promenade was originally wetlands or pines (non developable), but with rezoning became available for use in 2000. Otherwise it would have been developed with something else long ago. When both got built, the Marlton Crossing plaza across the street, which originally was a basic shopping center with Superfresh, CVS in the middle and Builder's Square, saw all new anchoring stores like Burlington Coat Factory, DSW, a big TJMaxx, Home Goods, Joyce Leslie replacing an old in-line CVS and such, and the plaza got up to 100% occupancy. This thru the spillover effect of the new retail. Somehow though, the Borders/ Jo Ann Fabrics plaza right after REI, across the Promenade, somewhat hasn't got any vibrancy of the nearby stores, though. I can't believe all the CC folks are admiring this Marlton model. While its works and is suburban, and there is a brick facade, its gets really boring (the limited number of stores), and you need to drive from one plaza, to the other, and bear traffic and jughandles. In fact, its actually not easy driving from Marlton Square to Promenade, since you have to do a U-Turn somewhere around the 70/73 circle. Easier going from Promenade and then to Marlton Square. Also, the Organized Living store location in the Promenade has been vacant for over 3 years. That's a big site. I have no idea what Kravco wants to put in there and perhaps is unable to lure anything really high end to go there. The Container Store wanted their own building and chose Cherry Hill. It's not quite by the apparel stores in the Promenade, but a New York & Company/ Express / The Limited combo could work. Or, something discount oriented like Steve & Barry's. American Eagle Outfitters just refilled something I believe that used to be upscale, so I think mid-range stores may be the direction they may wind up leaning to. Anyways there is nothing upscale really about Panera and Coldstone Creamery. Apparently, Champs restaurant in the Marlton Crossing plaza has complained to the state transportation over the Marlton Circle re-development. Route 73 will fly over Route 70, and a few businesses (esp. Olga's Diner) feel they will be right under the overpass and visibility will be blocked. Last edited by chris12 : 04-18-2008 at 09:01 PM. |

There have to be at least 50 posts in this thread from people saying Apple should come to them rather than the other way around b/c they don't feel they should be subjected to a 20 minute train ride to Suburban Square. That's accurate paraphrasing.

No, it's because PHILADELPHIA is the BIG CITY, with a great number of universities located within city borders, and furthermore, there are several universities (Temple, UArts, UPenn, Drexel, PhilaU, etc.) located within very close proximity of each other AND Center City, who would benefit from having an Apple Store.
