Am I the only immature person here who found the title of this thing funny?

Sorry gays, I apologize for being such a goof.

I know I'm setting myself up to get flamed (there's another juvenile pun for ya, Count! ), but Philly nightlife in general is pretty sucky. It's not just a problem with the gay bars. Personally, I blame the 2am closing.

Not really. We used to have a much better nightlife a number of years back. Not sure what changed that, but I think it was the direction that music took more than anything.

Thank you Grunge music, for taking the fun out of dancing.

"If memory serves me correctly there was a women’s gay bar called Sneakers that I believe was somewhere around 2nd or Front and Locust."

Sneakers was on 3rd St(east side) between Market and Arch.

Interestingly enough(unless I missed it in one of the posts) no one has touched on another
reason why nightlife was better 20-25 years ago in Philly and isn't as great now:
Baby Boomers got older and, for many, their priorities changed.

I can tell you frankly that that's what happened to me. My whole life changed in my 40th
year which precluded me from having any more time or energy for gay clubs and bars!
I would image that something similar happened to others my age. Today I could care
less about gay bars. I don't even think about them anymore(shrug)

None at all? I understand that nightlife becomes less important to people as they age and settle down, but never to out ever? I see MarketStEl at Bump, Pure, and other places, and I think he's older than you.

You should check out Knock, the new bar/restaurant at 12th and Locust. It's a "dignified" gay bar with real food and classy decor. I was there last night, and while Bump is more my speed, I kinda dig it.

I think it all depends on the person. MarketStEl is just a party animal at heart, don't ya know

I, OTOH, am 41 and have been to exactly one gay bar in the last three years. Same for my partner of 8 years. Another couple we know who are the same age and have been together about the same length of time go out at least once a month. A single friend our age goes out at least weekly.

I was at the opening of Key West. It was beautiful. On their anniversary in 1989 I had dinner in the dining room. The food was always excellent. Philadelphia was one of the few cities where many gay establishments served great food...Does anyone what influence Bill Wood had on the ability of new bars to open? Also, I always heard that organized crime had hold of the bar scene years ago.
