Default Nice Try

Sorry guys, I am hardly a racist...and that's getting old. (blah blah blah)

Im just telling you who is hanging outside of the bars, and being ridiculously immature, thats all.

To say its ok, to jump in front of cars and be rude is not a good look for the gay community. Id be embarassed if I was visiting (and afraid). Oh, and if your a teen...maybe you should be home and not hanging on 13th at 2am. We all know where their life is headed. No Where

They're teenagers...of course they're immature!

Though after seeing a kid who couldn't have been more than 7 or 8 nearly get hit by a car chasing a ball that had bounced into the street near 50th and Arch a few evenings back, I do wonder sometimes what the parents are doing with their children. In cases like this, whatever it is, it's not working.

I will tell you, though, that on that stretch of the street, most of the time, I'm more afraid for them than I am for myself.

Sounds like the typical rantings of one generation complaining about another.

If that's true, then why does it matter what color they are? If the point is that they're acting like idiots, why even bring race up at all? If you're merely being "descriptive," then it's an irrelevant piece of information. The fact is, the only reason to identify these "idiots" racially is if you believe that their race somehow explains their "idiot" behavior. Which, IMHO, is quintessentially racist.

People like to socialize, especially young people. Rather than judging kids for being kids, I think the larger concern is the obvious lack of a social outlet for gay teens aptly demostrated by their presence on the streets of the Gayborhood. The scene on 13th Street outside of Okay Pizza is no different than mall rats hanging out at King of Prussia or high school kids hanging out at Denny's at 1am.
Exactly right! The only reason the kids on 13th invite comment and the others don't is race. Ergo, racism.

bump

No, not the "gay luxe lounge" at 13th and Locust.

Rather, a reminder about the next Phillyblog Homo Happy Hour, on Tuesday, June 3, starting at 6 pm. Straight-but-not-narrow folk are also welcome, of course.

See the "Food and Drink" board -- where announcements of this type belong -- for the official post announcing the location. If you don't like it and didn't vote in the poll, tough -- it was open for just about the entire month of May. Hope you can make it anyway.

I've walked down by 13th and Walnut and been offered drugs by some of those kids. Sorry, but that's not really what happens when these kids hang out at King of Prussia or Dennys.

Smoking weed in public and attempting to sell drugs to strangers in one of the "nice" areas of the city is really stupid. And we know that these kids do not attract good elements, as can be exhibited by the shooting at Ghetto Pizza a few months back.

If I wasn't used to the gayborhood, I'd frankly be very nervous if I was going from Bump to Woody's or Sisters. I'd probably report back to my friends in whatever city I live that Philly's gayborhood is tawdry, shab and unsafe.

Um, I for one have been offered drugs in the King of Prussia Mall. In fact, when kids in my grade wanted to score coke or E and the local dealers were dry, a drive up to KoP was generally the solution. Also, a friend just told me that there's a regular coke dealer who makes the rounds at Valanni, among the well-monied and mostly white crowd.

Oh, and my "bad" friends - white suburbanites all - used to go to the Granite Run Denny's in states of drunkness, highness, and trippingness.

Default Trash Day

Move the trash to another area of the city...send them to Germantown or something. Everyone who hangs outside of woodys on a Wednesday night are loosers. (Most likely not working, selling drugs and live in filth)
