Default Sephora is great!

Sephora is heaven Yes, am guilty Sephora rules! but I think the best thing about it is that you can actually sample their stuff. Also you can get free makeovers by professional make up artist

By the way, what is the obsession with Sephora in general? It's okay, but I find a lot of the staff to be a little lacking at times when it comes to specific knowledge of product lines, especially the skin care. Is it the selection? Again, some of it is redundant crap.

Default Oh jesus guilty again!

Let me try to make an economical sense as to why some people spend $200 on jeans. Well you see, usually these types of jeans ARE of better quality then your regular jeans. For example, If I buy 2 pairs of $50 Gap jeans in a year and 1 might get wormed out by end of year, and the 2nd no longer "fits" right. I find that when I "invest" on $200 jean I still wear them for many years more bc they last longer. So if I keep buying $50 Gap years for years I would actually lose $ and not find the perfect jeans.
And btw, I don't owe many $200+ bc 1) I purchase many of my jeans at Century21 and Barneys Coop where you can get fav deals for like less than $125 jeans. Also the ones that I have purchase for around $200 have been great investments!
So Welcome Barneys!
LOL

with regards to Sephora, my thinking is that they're going into the Pay Half space on the 1700 block of Chestnut. The Pay Half seems to be in its final days and if so, Sephora would really be an anchor to that block (the store would be quite large). All in all, the 1700 block of Chestnut is shaping up to be one of Philadelphia's better retail blocks. It has a good mix of national chains and local businesses (for now) and according to Salove's site, their are a few more retail spaces available (pearl of the east, above Bo Concept). In a few years, it may compete with Walnut Street for rents.

The advantage of that part of Chestnut Street is that the square footages seem much larger than those on Walnut. Because of this, I wouldn't be surprised to see some "walnut street" caliber retailers moving to Chestnut over Walnut.

Default NO that's just an example

I dont even shop at the Gap, it was just an example. Don't regular Gap jeans run around $50? Ok then replace the Gap with City Blue if that would make more sense! LOL

I think you're putting the cart before the horse. Retail follows the money. Not the other way around. Philadelphia is heading in that direction, but it's not there yet.

Funny, I buy Gap jeans all the time, and I never pay more than $30 for them.

Of course, my jeans say "Old Navy" on the label, but is there really that much of a difference?

And in the other direction, why would I want to pay $80 for Gap jeans that have labels reading "Banana Republic" on them?

There was actually a recent article (Business Week maybe?) about how the Gap has been using the same denim for all three of its stores (Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic). The washes, treatments, and threading may be different but same denim. "perceived value" is an amazing concept. Similar to the idea of people buying $200 t-shirts from marc jacobs or wherever.

I beg to differ though about the "quality" of more expensive jeans. My Seven jeans, which were about $160 have a hole developing in them and they aren't even one year old. Same with my Diesel's that were made in Italy - quality schmality. Made in China/Italy/Slovenia- who knows anymore what equates to quality.

And lastly, in defense of my Salove link that everyone shot me down for posting - saying these were all done deals - West Elm, Bo Concept, Thomas Pink - these were all listed before the store fronts ever appeared. So take a look - some of those stores are coming soon. Nancy Koltes (based in Nolita) - I haven't seen that open yet - Le Madeleine restaurant (which has killer Tomato basil soup) - haven't seen them open in any part of Philly yet - so I stand by my post.
