It never did, that's why it's still Southwark. There's probably a differnce in what the area is called by people who moved before the 1960-70s and now.
During the mid 1960s, urban redevelopment came through and you had the "Queen Village Plan", basically a slum clearance plan if I understand correctly. So people who moved there from 1970s on may call it Queen Village after the name of the Urban Blight Renewal plan, while people who moved there before call it Southwark.
It's basically the same way that "Washington Square East" became a bad term, so after the slum clearing, they made up a new name that was based on a very old name- Society Hill.
