Default Notes on Fourth of July celebration

1. lionel ritchie, fantasia, ohio players, cece pettison..........

Rock and roll is dead in Philadelphia.

2. Police officers shouldn't be hired as ticket takers. I stood up front and watched policemen getting paid to help VIP's get through the gates to get better seats. Weird. Expensive too.

3. The fact that the show went so late and then Ritchie ran off the stage like a scared kitten because of the storm....served him right. Man, that show lacked organization. Who does these things?

4. Am I the only one that gets a douche chill whenever Dave Roberts shows up on screen? Who is this guy sleeping with to get so many gigs?

5. Street food always looks good to me........and now I'm paying for it.

6. I love seeing the whole town outside together. The collective stench from the sweaty bodies was almost unbearable. And I realize now that we are basically a city of complete eccentrics.

7. Why on earth would they empty the Logan Circle fountain for this event? We need that thing to be filled with water.

8. I saw Svetlana from the Real World in the crowd. She was with a boyfriend. And fighting with him. I hate reality tv....and yet I watch it. I'm too old for that.

9. Overall, Philadelphians should show less skin. Man, my eyes were burning looking at some of the things that I saw today.

10. Lynn Swann came through the crowd. A black Republican at a Lionel Ritchie show.....it kind of works. Is it possible that Rendell has more soul that than guy.

11. I never realized that Lionel Ritchie had written so much bad music. And he didn't even get to sing the really bad ones.

12. Having a stage in front of that huge statue across from the Art Museum makes no sense at all. That statue of Washington on the horse is magnificent.....so great in fact that it blocks the view of almost everyone from the stage.

13. What the hell is Irish Water Ice?

14. Philadelphians love sitting in their own garbage. Watching people sitting down in filth makes me kind of sad. Almost as sad as watching them throw the garbage there in the first place.

15. Homeless guys have fun at free events. Well.....except when the Philly Pops play.

16. Peter Nero needs a hipness update. Copacabana? They played the same set that they played the night before in front of Independence Hall. Both times....it was boring.

17. The city looks great at night. The art museum looked beautiful. I don't have anything bad to say about that.

18. A double cheeseburger at McDonalds = $1.00
A hamburger at the show = $9.00
The runs = priceless

19. Why do I own those handy folding chairs....and never bring them to these events........wait........why do I go to these events?

20. Something wells up in me when I hear "God Bless America"........
Something flows from me when I hear "Dancing on the Ceiling"

Did anyone go to this event besides my poor GF and me? She is a champ for enduring. Enduring every event of the weekend. Man, I need a shore house or something.

Think of Peter Nero and the Pops as our hometown equivalent to Lawrence Welk (and be grateful there's no hometown equivalent to the Lennon Sisters).

Cool

What I want to know is how Lionel Richie did a set in NYC for Macy's event at 9:30 and then made it to Philadelphia in time for the Art Museum.

This is what you get when you "hire" Clifton Davis to run the show, instead of any number of real professionals we actually do have in the city to pull these things together. The name Larry Magid ring a bell? Live Aid. Live 8? Even Philadelphia isn't that down in the mouth that it puts on that sucky of a show all the time.

People everywhere should show less skin, not just here. I was at a county fair in rural Connecticut a few years back (that was mistake number 1), and those folks walking around eating funnel cake like it was going out of style made us look thin.

Americans should show less skin. The amount of obesity in this country is appalling.

Frankly, and maybe unkindly to some, showing less
skin doesn't help wrt to obese people nowadays.

I mean nothing can hide how fat they are!

Default Penn's Landing fireworks were great...

that was the only event I went to this weekend; apart from touring around Independence Mall/Hall and Consitution Center with some friends from NJ.
It was hot, but people seemed to be enjoying themselves.. Sad that the parkway show was so dismal this year.

21. Never attend these events with countfunkula. He seems to pick the worst possible spot.
Notes from the front:
1) I'm glad everybody used dial. Shockingly, I smelled absolutely no boddy odor.
2) There are more beautiful women at these events than I thought.
3) Lionel Ritchie was okay. Chances are I woudl have hated any cheeseball rock band they got as well. There aren't too many bands such a large group of people will all like. Fantasia sucked.
4) Speaker set up sucked. It was all bass off to the side.
5) People are still afraid of lightning.
6) Philly pops was even worse than Fantasia.
7) As the city usuallly does, it failed to comprehend the necessity of emptying trash cans during the show.
I really had no complaints. use your head when attending these events. there's always a bar or restaurant nearby or eat beforehand. Excercise your ability to carry a cooler and take the trash with you afterwards. I'd love to see better music but the street administration is in power. the same people who downsized the christmas tree, then hired a drunk to string the lights.
