Default Apartment bldg recommendation-2 bedroom

My in-laws are wanting to relocate to Philadelphia. They intend to rent and really want a two bedroom/two bath apartment, but would be OK with a two bedroom/one and a half bath. They do not want two bedroom/one bath.

They would ideally like to be in Center City, but would also consider University City or other neighborhoods around Center City. They are open to either brownstone or apartment building, but would really prefer a building, especially one with a gym. Their budget is approximately $1700/month or less, although if the building had a gym (even a small one--they mostly walk on treadmill or ride stationary bikes) they would be able to bump up another $100 or so. I'm not sure if there are any apartment buildings that reasonable any more? It's been 8 years since I rented in CC and the prices have escalated a lot.

Does anyone know of any rental possibilities in this price range? If so, are they nice enough places that a 60-something and 70-something couple could live with? My in-laws do not need super-fancy and are city-saavy, so really looking for a nice, clean apartment and would certainly consider buildings that cater to students, etc.

Thanks!

Uh, lemme see if I get this straight...your in-laws want to move near you...AND YOU ARE HELPING THEM?? You must REALLY be desperate for baby-sitting.

Is not your father-in-law, like mine, to quote Shakepeare, "a clod of wayward marl, highly fed and lowly taught, lewdly inclined, with not so much brain as earwax"? Is your MIL, again in the bard's parlance, not a "long-tongu'd babbling gossip, a poisonous bunch-back'd toad, the annointed sovereign of sighs and groans"? Why are you helping these people move near you? I am more than willing to donate my in-laws to you; there is no need for yours to spend the cost to relocate!

Check out listings in the Academy House. It's a condo with a doorman, gym, etc. You may be able to find a private deal for a 2B/1.5Ba

I'd browse through ads on craigslist.org

Default The Warehouse 9th and Filbert

Try The Warehouse located at 9th and Filbert. The actual address is 9 North 9th street. It's on the edge of Chinatown, but walking distance to everything. It has 2bedroom 2bath at $1495 - this includes free use of the gym and pool tables, and 24 hour doorman. There is also on premise parking, but that's an extra $125. It's owned by Philadelphia Management.

try One Franklin Town at 17th and callowhill. sort of an odd location, but there is a gym and indoor pool and there are lots of 2BR/2bath places. I moved out 3 years ago and i think they were only up to $1650 or so. They also have discounted parking in the garage directly across the street. The building management and maintenance were always very efficient and helpful, and the front desk is manned 24 hours/day. good luck!

I lived in a 2bed/2bath at One Franklin Town for 6 years (1989-1995). It was a great building (back then it was brand new) and by far the quietest apartment I've ever lived in. I don't know how well the building's been maintained over the years, but I would definitely check it out.

Default Where Should a Senior Citizen Relocate In CC?

As my other posts have indicated, my partner & I are relocating to Philly within the next 3-4 months.

It now seems that my partner's mother may consider moving here too - here sister is also here, but in NE Philly.

She now lives in The Bronx, in a Co-op apt., and would want something that she can walk to a senior citizen center, and be able to walk to some shopping, parks, and easy access to public trans. She does not drive.

She's looking for a 1 bdrm, any suggestions? She's in here 70's and in OK health.

My mother, in her mid-60's, just moved here from Los Angeles (although she's originally from Queens), and took an apartment in the Cosmopolitan at 12th and Locust (directly across the street from the 12th Street Gym). She originally was considering the museum area because, well, so many "older" folks seem to live in the high rises that way, but she is now fully convinced that the gayborhood is the perfect area for someone like her precisely because she can walk everywhere she usually wants to go -- Kimmel Center, theaters, restaurants, markets (she frequents those on South St./10th) and, most importantly, all of her doctors. I don't know about a senior citizen's center, but the Gershman Y has a lot of activities of interest to seniors.
