Default The old Daily News building at 22nd & Arch

What's the story with that big ugly building... not sure of the exact address... i'm going to say Arch and the high 20s.

Thought I had read somewhere on here that it was going to be redeveloped this summer, but can't seem to find that reference anymore.

There was actually an article in the February 17 USA Today about the condo boom across the country and Philadelphia was cited several times. In fact, on the internet version they had 9 pictures and 8 out of the 9 featured buildings in Philadelphia. They also interviewed condo realtor Alan Domb as well as a young single lady who moved from the suburbs to the Dorchester at Rittenhouse Square in order to partake in the urban lifestyle. It was good publicity for Philadelphia. I'm betting 80% of the readers out there read it and then thought "What? Philadelphia! I thought this article was going to feature Manhattan! I can't believe people in that blue collar burg would live in such fancy condos and partake in the urban lifestyle".

That building kinda matches the one on the other side of the JFK bridge that just got remodeled. The one on 22nd and Market, above Trader Joes. I'm sure they'll do what they did there.

The apts above Trader Joes suck. Of course, they are 'loft style' so people think they are cool....and they fill up. UPenn Undergrad students think thats the hottest building in the city...

When an old shitty garage that will be mowed down costs $$$ in LS, I could not imagine what that big beast is fetching. Personally, I would love to live in that building, the views would be killer and the location is good for me. That is a loft opportunity.

btw: 6 new mega-luxo homes with multiple car parking coming soon to Logan Square

i'd love to live there as well. 2121 market took forever to fill. i looked at those two years ago and decided neither myself nor my roommate wanted holes in the BR walls nor the shoddy open kitchen. this ain't manhattan and we don't have to put up with the crap.

Funny you mention holes in the walls. For kicks, I looked at the sample units about 8 mos ago. I could not get over the condition of the walls, and that was the sample! I would hate to see the rest of the building. The layout was poor in all 3 units, and it was clear that they cut a lot of corners.

Now, there are RR tracks that seem to butt up right next to that big building on 22nd. Are those tracks used? Is that the dead track that runs to Kensington? Every day I look out my window at that big beast, and dream about having a loft in there...
