There's also a farmers market setup every Tuesday from 2 to 7 at South & Passyunk. Not a whole lot of vendors, but it's good quality.

just to clarify, fitler square's farmers set up along 23rd street at pine (across the street from dmitri's), saturdays from 10-2.

of the bigger places, i like trader joe's prices better than whole foods, but whole foods' selection better. (i'd reckon that's the case for most people.)

also, since you're at 21st & walnut, you should also pop into the _____ market (sorry, i forget its name) at 23rd & spruce. (i'm pretty sure that's the block, diagonal from mama palma's restaurant.) if you're out for a stroll, tastebuds is worth a look too, corner of 24th & lombard. it's small though, so only go there if you're making dinner or need a chunk of cheese. (i really, really recommend the prosciutto/fresh mozz/tomato/basil paninis.)

Default not park slope

as a park slope native I have to say that there is nothing comparable to the scale of the farmers market and food coop in Center City at least
I belong to a CSA and drop a lot of money at Whole Foods, though WF has a relatively small proportion of organic produce compared to stores in other states that I have shopped in...

When you say, "in Center City at least..." do you mean that there are better (or more comprehensive) options farther out?

I'm pretty much resigned to missing the Coop - it's an unusual place...

Default as far as I know

I mean that I am only familiar with what is available in center city but in general the farmers markets here are rather small. The farmers market in Brooklyn (and this is no union square) has many more vendors with wider varieties of produce (plus meat, wool) than I have seen in Philly-- it frankly helps in new york that you have high income and population concentrations and people willing to pay more for organic (and everything else)

yes, more dense, etc. however our food is better so it's a tradeoff. why don't you just go to the terminal? it sounds like the only that will fit your needs. rittenhosue i believe is the largest of the outdoor markets.
