But those freestanding buildings sometime just attract furniture stores, or random unsuccessful stores. The Sports Authority left their Maple Shade location, which was across a Bally's and Lowe's Hardware (totally fine location) and moved 5 miles east to Centerton Square, just to have the synergy of being in a plaza format near other stores. And in East Gate Sq., the MJM Designer Shoes store which was originally a Bob's store also didn't do well, and its no coincidence it was a freestanding building. Now, stores like Staples and Best Buy that can hold on their own, do fine in freestanding locations. Best Buy has a freestanding store in Deptford, and its just as busy as other Best Buys to what I see. For the Cherry Hill Wholesale Floors site, who moves there depends on whose lease is up, at the old plaza, and could move. Office Depot is in the former Kids R Us location in the Toys R Us/Wal-Mart shopping center further down Route 38. Somewhat of a lower income oriented plaza, where I don't see sales of flat planel LCD monitors and laptops to be as high, as it might not be as affordable to the people frequenting the plaza. So, they could move there. Or that building could accodomate another big box maybe new to the area. Perhaps Filene's Basement or something that we currently don't have here. Or another furniture store. The Garden State Pavilions plaza will be die out. I don't see the vacant Home Depot or Old Navy buildings be leased out in the near future. It'll be weird that in the 08002 zip code area of Cherry Hill, we'll see a very high end plaza like The Towne Place, which is in progress, while there are so many downscale plazas and areas really not far at all. However, Cherry Hill west even with all its vacant retail spots, and nearby lower income households - there still isnt a FamilyDollar or Big Lots. You'll find them in Clementon and not as affluent towns. There are a couple Dollar Trees, and one Dollar General in an old Eckerd building though. Last edited by sot99 : 02-15-2008 at 01:09 AM. |

Thanks for the response, Sot. I agree that being a stand alone building is an issue, but I think it's less of an issue for that particular one, being that you have to drive past it to exit the shopping center. I would definitely stop in there on my way out, if it was a store I liked.

What was weird was the TJMaxx across the Cherry Hill Mall closed, and the front door notice said they moved to Centerton Square in Mt.Laurel. I believe that's like 10 miles away, in what I think is a totally different market.
Marshall's which is co-owned didn't have a store in the area. Typically, if there is one, there isn't the other, since they are co-owned. A.J. Wright, also co-owned but the lower end of the three, was in the area in the Wal-Mart shopping center, but since then, they have closed too. So the west Cherry Hill area doesn't have any of those stores, but you have ROSS and Stein Mart. My point is its possible that ROSS could put a sign up telling people they have moved to Cinnaminson, and leave as well, even though they are two totally different regions. The old Cinnaminson Mall is being redeveloped into a plaza with ShopRite and Ross. www.lease130.com Apparently in this site plan, Burlington Coat Factory will be a tenant. Their original store is in Burlington NJ on Route 130, further up the road. I wonder if that store stays open. I think Kohls thinks the area is too downscale for them so they didn't pursue it, but I've seen a freestanding Kohl's in the DE/MD border in an area I thought wasn't too upscale either. JCPenney (which had said they wanted to open freestanding stores) could have pursued that site also - too bad they didn't. Burlington Coat Factory is fine, but will bring a downscale image to Cinnaminson. |

They are still in Moorestown Mall in the actual foodcourt.
They closed in Echelon/Voorhees Town Center and Cherry Hill Mall, and in these malls, they had separate seating. I wonder if its a company strategy to leave malls, or if the mall owner in question (that being PREIT) doesn't want to renew leases with them, unless its solely in the foodcourt. In both malls, they brought a somewhat downscale traffic (no offense), esp. in Cherry Hill, where the restaurant also seemed dark and had little seating. PREIT would rather have a Starbucks type joint, where there is nothing like a dollar menu. The Dollar menu was just not consistent with the pricier stuff the mall wants to have around. |

Was at the mall for the first time in a month today...
The ceilings are being renovated and so far there is ceiling construction taking place from Macys to the Apple Store and then on the 2nd Level of the mall. Closed stores: Lids (relocated to a kiosk at the food court) The Picture People (moved to the now closed Hall of Heroes store) Hall of Heroes The sneaker store that was next to Spencer's The sneaker/clothing store that was next to McDonald's Motherhood Maternity had a sign that said it was moving to the former Racetrack. Goten in the food court is now gone. The soup place and Quizno's have been gone for a couple of months now as well. The Armani store is being renovated but is still open. I wonder why they are renovating after just opening not too long ago? The fountain near JCPenny's, which I haven't seen on in years, has been cemented up and is now gone. It is just a flat surface now. Last edited by gunsnrosesmz : 04-06-2008 at 07:33 PM. |

...I dont mean to threadjack, but...
From Philly was, without question, one of the dumbest and most non-useful PBers of all time. He was like Walmart---always low value, always expanding. Just look at how far off topic his ridiculous posts made this thread i the beginning. That's what we need at the Cherry Hill Mall---the From Philly Memorabilia Shop. Take that, eLuxury!
