Well I hope all of this helps the mall.. I used to love the cherry hill mall, but the past few years it turned into the Gallery, New Jersey... I live in South Philly and always travel to NJ for the malls, just so much easier to get to Deptford or Cherry hill then it is to get to KOP or even Plymouth Meeting ( I don't count Franklin mills anymore, every time I go there, I think they have less and less stores!)

I think Crate & Barrel and The Container Store are definitely helping. I think Nordstrom will help. The Macy's is pretty good. Half the mall is like The Gallery--it's when you get to about Brooks Brothers it changes.

Once the new construction takes place I think this will end. The food court will move towards Macys and upscale stores will replace the food court.

I think you mean the foodcourt will move to the JCPenney wing. I'm not sure it will fix the problem (i.e. I'd be surprised if lot of A list chains go by JCPenney), but the renovation should make it lot less of a noticeable difference.

Regarding Cherry Hill Mall's main rival, the Promenade at Sagemore in Marlton, I wonder if the vacant Organized Living store can be redesigned/developed into a double story unit for a Borders. Having a Borders or Barnes & Noble fits in well in an upscale mall/outdoor lifestyle center. Parking might be tight though at the Promenade. A Borders or B&N would also be great at Cherry Hill mall, if the area could support a 3rd store for either chain. Both have Marlton and Mt.Laurel stores.

In Marlton, Borders is in an older shopping center across the street from the Promenade, with Fortunoff and Jo Ann Fabrics, but that plaza is somewhat dead and storefront isn't aesthetic (compared to other Borders), and Borders doesn't get the walk-in traffic from people passing around in the Promenade.

Anyways, that space in affluent Marlton could be easily re-leased with maybe an Office Depot, ROSS or something else, so the plaza wouldn't suffer too much.

I believe Barnes & Noble is opening up at the Garden State Park Town Center.....so I doubt they would open up another one a mile away at the mall. A Borders would be nice though.

It was originally mentioned in the Courier Post that Barnes & Noble would be one of the tenants there. This was when the land was cleared, and before construction of any of the stores. But, further mention of that plaza (in newspapers) when it was going up, never included mention of B&N afterwards. Not too long after, the Federated May merger occured, Federated said they were closing the Strawbridge site, and PREIT announced redevelopment at Cherry HIll Mall.

However, this I found from wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garden_State_Park
http://161.58.219.150/cgi-bin/Go.cgi...=15&p_region=6
"Coming soon are restaurants Brio Tuscan Grille, McCormick & Schmick's, M&S Grill, and Cosi (proposed). Retailers proposed include Anthropologie, Bandolino, BCBG, Hugo Boss, Kenneth Cole, Lucy, and more."

Indeed, B&N is coming but to the Towne Place.

This can be a bigger threat to the mall's efforts than Promenade at Sagemore. I'd think PREIT would be fighting for the list of these stores (esp. the apparel stores) to be in the Cherry Hill Mall.

Retailers committed include Cheesecake Factory at 13,000 sf, Barnes & Noble at 28,000 sf, Talbots at 8,000 sf, Coldwater Creek at 6,000 sf and J. Jill at 4,000 sf.

Sot, any thoughts at what might move into the spot Worldwide Floors (or whatever it was called) vacated, in the shopping center across from Cherry Hill mall? Whatever ends up there needs to be a store that Kohls and Target shoppers would frequent. I think that's why that store didn't make it. You're not going to buy a $20 dress at Kohls, then go across the parking lot and spend $8000 on a rug.

Actually, ROSS should probably move there. They're in a lousy location now. I only stop in there if I need to pick up something at Shoprite.

I can't believe anybody seriously gives a crap or gets excited about a bunch of chain stores opening up in Cherry Hill. Is this thread for real?
