There is a whole shopping center at the stop.

Actually, NJ Transit has buses that go from Center City to the Cherry Hill Mall.

Yes there is, and from what I understand quite an impressive one, but this topic mainly concerns the Cherry Hill Mall, but thanks for the input.

Let us take a look at the "shopping at the mall" experience, as we know it today. Malls came about initially in the suburban areas, when the automobile became more affordable, basically in the 50's and people started to move to the suburbs in great numbers. The malls afforded them the opportunity to have the same quality of shopping they were used to when the moved from Philly. The main and means of getting to the mall was the automobile. Sure there are now buses and trains that allow people to go the Suburban Malls, but how many people really do? When one considers what is involved in shopping by public transportation and especially the limited amount available, plus the lugging of purchases home, it seems to me that taking public transportation, isn't that attractive to most people.

I'm frankly surprised by how many people in Center City feel as if they must have a car, it seems to be much greater than say people living in Boston's Back Bay, for example.

And what surprises me more is the number of people I have met who live in Center City who shop at Wegman's of Cherry Hill for groceries, since Center City is lacking in grocery department. So I would think it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume that many people frequent Cherry Hill Mall for shopping that isn't available in Center City. The Gallery is shameful. It is not like the Prudential Center or Michigan Avenue.

But I think they are trying to steal the locus of upscale shopping away from Marlton, with the advent of the Promenade et al.

Plenty of people go to the Gallery via bus to shop. Plenty of people go to Franklin Mills Mall by bus to shop. Plenty of people go to grocery stores by bus to shop. So why is it hard for you to believe people use a bus for Cherry Hill Mall?

I work near the mall and it seems decently active.

Thank you for pointing out the topic , but if you re-read the OP's original post, you will see he pointed out the Garden State Park race track.

NJ transit's 404 bus leaves from 6th and Race and drops you off right in front of the Cherry Hill Mall. It takes approximately an hour. Heck, if you live in Center City and don't have a car, it's a nice alternative to get to the Mall.

A good numer of workers arrive at malls all over the region via bus.

King of Prussia more than any other mall.

So much so Septa increased service.

-- Route 123 -- on Saturday evenings, an extra trip departing King of
Prussia Plaza en route to 69th Street Terminal will be added to the
schedule to address overcrowding.

I know quite a few people in center city that don't have a car, and use public transportation all the time, and when they take long trips, they rent cars.

And what surprises me more is the number of people I have met who live in Center City who shop at Wegman's of Cherry Hill for groceries, since Center City is lacking in grocery department. No it is not, but I don't think the businesses in Jersey are counting on the center city folks to sustain them. I think they are icing on the cake.
