Default Where to live, halfway between New Brunswick and West Philly

I am a long-time 'yunker, and will need to move closer to my GF's place of work for co-habitation. Where is there a nice place with a Manayunk feel that is not too great a drive for either of us?

Do I have to stick with Jersey, or are there places in PA that would do?

Transposition -- it's all a state of mind.

He needs Bucks. I recommend Yardley or New Hope. Lambertville right into Jersey is nice. Rent might run you about the same as Manayunk.

NB is just a few miles north of Princeton, El.

Make sure he buys an espresso maker if he moves to Yardley. That place is dullsville. New Hope, however, is very cool and definitely has a Manayunky vibe.

It irks me to praise the Jug-Handle state, but Collingswood is a cool little town just over the BF bridge. A tolerable drive to New Brunswick, an easy trip to West Philly and spitting distance from Old City.

I need to relocate from Manayunk to be closer to New Brunswick; I work in West Philly, and my GF works in NB. Any of those small towns in Bucks of Jersey have a 'yunky feel?
Yep- most likely will be New Hope, although you might also like Doylestown, possibly old Newtown, perhaps part of Old Bristol

- but I'd have to say the most like Manayunk is New Hope.

But I don't know if you're looking for:
the "feel" of Manayunk - the residential area,

or the "feel" of Main Street- the commercial area.

New Hope is close to Main Street with restaurants, bars and shops, with a little bit of South Street edge of tattoo parlors and bikers. Across the river is Lambertville- which seems a little higher class than New Hope, more like Chestnut Hill along Germantown Avenue.

New Brunswick to West Philly is about 55 miles, half way puts you along the west bank of the Delaware- New Hope, Morrisville and Yardley.

You'll probably want to be close to the R3 and R7 trains- which means Morrisville or Yardley- but New Hope is a possibility.

Let me know more specifics and I'll tell you what's around.

Hal

transposition, what is you opinion of using rail to get to north jersey? you can use amtrak to get to princeton or Newark. Princeton is 45 min i think.

Default A New Hope (Episode IV)

Thanks for the info. I actually like both the fact that neighbors know each other, as well as the"business district", such as it is.

The other thing that I will miss is the canal and proximity to Fairmount Park (I run a bit, albeit slowly).

I saw a link to the New Hope muni page, but are there other places on the net that can give more day-to-day info?

Well, if you like the Manayunk Towpath,

which does have it's nice views

and the West River drive path (which actually used to be a towpath as well- the fishladder across from the Waterworks/Art Museum used to be a canal boat lock like you see in Manayunk)

You'll probably like New Hope-
New Hope actually has great access to the Canal -

the Delaware towpath is a red grit path, and it runs along a section with homes that back up to the canal, restaurants that overlook the canal

For more information about New Hope, there's a weekly paper
the New Hope Gazzette.

For day to day information, there used to be a fairly acid wit on the the new hope ~blog called the "Yenta Column" - a quick google search should find some recent gossip and plans.
