Default New Dillworth Plaza Design!

Philly.com has a multimedia rendering of the redesigned plaza.

It's soooooooo awesome.

The only bad thing is that they took out all the granite benches.
Those bastards.

Just be careful. The cars in the animation don't stop at the red light. There was a close-call at 15th & Market.

I like the idea of the lawn and the water elements, but that huge glass cube is right in the middle of the the traffic between City Hall's west portal and the pedestrian intersection. Aesthetics aside, I don't think it's well sited (though projecting movies against it is a cool idea).

I think it's really, really stupid.

Really stupid.

1. Let's make the subway station even worse by cutting off more light and air.

2. No one will use this thing.

3. Don't we have better things to fix right in the immediate area? As in... like maybe instead of wasting easily 5-10 MILLION on this we maybe dump it into helping that mess underneath where everyone actually uses.

4. There isn't a busier intersection in Center City. They make shitty parks. Period.

5. There's no residents. The residents who do live there are $$$$$ and I doubt would want to watch movies with the homeless.

6. We don't remove the homeless so all these renderings are innaccurate... look at Love Park. THere's an steady 5-10 panhandling at any given time.

7. I could think of 20 things mre worth it. Like 10 Million in bathrooms for Fairmount Park and Rittenhus Square.

It covers the concourse entrance. The redesign of the plaza would allow them to heat and air-condition that part of the concourse. Hopefully with a complete redesign of the concourse as well. I wouldn't be surprised if they added an elevator there too.

I was thinking the same thing. Great, a nice, new bathtub for all the bums who live there! When I lived a block from there a few years ago, I found a syringe on the ground while walking the dog. Lovely park it will make.

Zur Zur, always missing the big picture:

With this redesign, the concourse can be air condition/heated now... And light never touch that area..Pigeons, yes..light no..

Yes, like no one uses Rittenhouse Square.

This redesign will improve the area under the park as much as above, think how Suburban Square looks now. Because to have this park happen, they will have to destroy most of the subway concourse.

Can't beat this one...Except that people already go through that are by the hundreds, so it's not like no one is ever there, they just don't stay there right now. You'll see how it goes when they have the farmers market later this year...

You think the homeless are still going to be there when they redesign the parks(Love park is also getting makeover) Not likely, not if the Center City district has anything to say about tit.

Do the bums have a lease? Because if they don't have anything on paper, they may be asked to leave. Make an attractive park that people want to use and the people may also demand their removal. As things stand now, the bums are the only ones that want to use the plaza.
