1. Let's make the subway station even worse by cutting off more light and air.

2. No one will use this thing.

3. Don't we have better things to fix right in the immediate area? As in... like maybe instead of wasting easily 5-10 MILLION on this we maybe dump it into helping that mess underneath where everyone actually uses.

4. There isn't a busier intersection in Center City. They make shitty parks. Period.

5. There's no residents. The residents who do live there are $$$$$ and I doubt would want to watch movies with the homeless.

6. We don't remove the homeless so all these renderings are innaccurate... look at Love Park. THere's an steady 5-10 panhandling at any given time.

7. I could think of 20 things mre worth it. Like 10 Million in bathrooms for Fairmount Park and Rittenhus Square.
Have you ever said anything postive ever?

I like this new plaza design. The old Dilworth plaza is a marvel of poor city planning IMO.

Lew: The Residences at the Ritz (condos) will be on the south side of the plaza. There are also new condos at the Ellington and somewhere else on that corner, and the Residences at 2 Liberty Place are just a block away, so it's not just an office park anymore.

Also, a good cafe there will be a draw in and of itself.

Zur: I'd imagine at least half the cost of building this thing will be rebuilding the concourse underneath (to support this thing), and I'll bet, if the city is smart, they'll make the city concourse underneath more like the MetroMart at Suburban Station. This will also help clean up part of the station, shoo out the bums, and the pigeons too. Having the shops on the premises will make the plaza self-sufficient.

That said, I agree that public toilets spread out throughout the city are a good thing. We aren't L.A., for crying out loud!

And I want to ask, what's going on with LOVE Park? Isn't that one of Ed Bacon's greatest city planning achievements?

Haha I see it gets Zur's official stamp of (dis)approval. I think it looks terrific. The additional greenspace is always nice and breaks up the concrete monotony. The fountains and especially the skating rink are a nice touch. Outdoor movies is something different. Regardless, it's a huge improvement.

So who's paying for it? The City? And is the money already allocated or is this just in the proposal stage right now? Is there a timeline?

Instead of like just complaining about bums and druggies and metally ill people living on the streets, wouldn't it be better if we all try to help theses people?

I mean, these are human beings and I think we should honor that fact. Instead of simply whining and complaining that they make center center look bad, let's try to extend a helping hand to improve their situation.

The aesthetic debate aside, this project should at best motivate philadelphia government and the citizens of center city to try and assit the less fortunate.

They're human beings. We should all honor that fact.

Sooner or later you become inured to telling these folks to buzz off. You're right, though. Something needs to be done.

I've only had lunch at LOVE a handful of times but it was pretty busy. It's quiet at night but that's partially due to design and being in an office sector. I think the circular welcome center woudl make an excellent happy hour/cafe. the park itself is still in bad shape and at night it feels cut off from the grid (it looks like a good place to get mugged). lighting also sucks. Still, with the right mix and the increase in residential properties (plus the nearby hotel) it could work. Back to Dilworth, I think it coudl pull from chestnut st and I definitely think you coudl pull some people from R Sq and have it actually benefit that square. It's completely mobbed. The RiverRink is also mobbed so it would be nice to have one more convenient to center city (and one out of towners might actually see). While we're not manhattan, we do have a density that most other cities do not (in fact, none save NYC and Chicago). BTW, does anyone know who's renovating the old Top Shelf lounge?

Seeing that he CCD is doing it, it'll probably be private funds. And no timeline, but it'll be soon, as the Ritz is nearly finished, and I'm sure that they will want to move on it as soon as those people settle in..

And don't forget that SEPTA is going to be redoing the Broad Street Line City Hall station soon...

I like the vision! Is there a way to encourage the designers and city to include some pedestrian bridges to link the corners of Penn Sq to the new plaza? I am thinking something along the lines of the Serpent Bridge (?) in Millennium Park or an extremely innovative pedestrian bridge where an architect just goes nuts with the design. Something unique! The idea of incorporating the transit connections with the plaza is a must. Having another exit for the Broad, MFL, Regional, and Subway-Surface lines is critical to the success of center city and the plaza.

I, too, love the idea of private cafes and restaurants in the parks. Why the BF Parkway hasn't done that yet is beyond me.

Any idea if they could make the pool transparent from below? What a sight it would be to see the skyline from below water! Of course, voyeurism and grime may become problematic...

No. We are already helping them. I think NYC is busing their homeless here.

Theres tons of abandoned McMansions in Florida. Let's bus them all to Boca. Come on, they can hang at the beach and there's sunshine... who wouldn't want that?

Please. This is a liberal Democrat bleeding heart city, and even with that trait, they are abusing the hands that feed them.

What do you want, your withholding to double out of your paycheck so they can live in a Rittenhouse condo?

Reagan got rid of the asylum system that we had which was supporting them and keeping them sheltered. When Byberry closed, they flooded Center City and started defecating everywhere.

They're human, who act like roaches.

Believe me, they are smart people. That's why 1/2 of me supports the casinos because all the bums in Center City will pack up and leave for Delaware Ave when they eventually open for business.

The casinos just don't know it yet, but those parking lots will be like night of the living dead with homeless camping out, weaving in and out of traffic looking for handouts. I can't wait for the casinos... it will clear out 70% of the bums in CC and they'll move down there like packs of wolves who've spotted a fresh kill.
