OK-before I go further, I love, repeat love, Nutter's new Zoning Board. With that said, his appointments to the Zoning Code Commission leave a lot to be desired. First, he did not keep one of the more qualified people who Street appointed, that is John Gallery of the Preservation Alliance. But most importantly, he named Judith Eden and Sam Staten Jr., two of the former Zoning Board members to the Commission. The two of them, along with Eleanor Dezzi and Rev. Hall, followed in lock step with David Auspitz, and I don't know of a single vote that wasn't 5-0. They quietly allowed him to ruin the ZBA process, and never stood up to him, and in fact joined him in ganging up on people who they didn't like. Now they are going to be on a Commission to reform the Zoning Code? Is anyone scratching their heads? And Sam Staten Jr., who I am sure is a very nice guy, doesn't know a Zoning Code from a Morse Code. |

Not sure what you mean, the post is about the Zoning Code Commission, to which Judith Eden and Sam Staten Jr. have been appointed.

The Board makes actual variance decisions, the commission is a larger group making recommendations for changes to the code.

Yes I know and understand the difference. Nutter appointed two former ZBA members to the Zoning Code Commission. I am very disappointed at this.

We should just be thankful enough that Nutter cut that Sharif street rat by the tail, before it could grow and claw into our system like his father did.
Kudos to Nutter!

I wouldn't be too worried about Judith Eden. It's a shame she didn't stand up to Auspitz more than she did, but I think her views on planning and development are compatible with most of the posters on this forum.
By the way, the Famous Fourth Street Deli has really stepped up its game under Auspitz's successor. May the ZBA follow suit (I say this as someone who prevailed in the few times I went before the ZBA, but it was a kangaroo court). |
