Cool.

What amazes me is that a few years ago this organization had so little money that they had to shut down all thier programs and lay off all thier staff. Good for them.

I really hope this succeeds, it's such a poorly used space right now. The building is beautiful, but imposing, and the future park area felt like a vacant lot until they planted some trees and installed some berms recently. I never knew what the building behind the "park" was, I didn't realize it was also Brandywine. I always wondered why they didn't build on Broad Street. Utilizing the side wall to create a more welcoming entrance through a park area seems like a great idea, I hope they can actually fund the project.

Both buildings were highly underutilized. In fact, they were renting out space in the back building to a "screenprinter" who was making t-shirts.

Since you seem interested in the project, why not organize a phillyblog fundraiser? I am sure they would welcome the support and publicity.

I noted in another thread today that the old muffler place across from CAPA was demo'ed today. You can clearly see the old train shed from Broad in all it's, what's the word, glory, no, that's not it.

Well anyway, it changes the look of that area alot, now it's even more empty!

Anyone heard any plans for the lot besides Starbucks, Trader Joes, or Wegmans? I believe the school district owns the property, but I can't remember where I got that idea from. I checked it on Hallwatch, but I'm unclear on what lot it actually is, the old address of the muffler shop was 1004 South Broad, but that doesn't show up on hallwatch.

On another note, hallwatch actually reflects Rimas owning the North East corner. I had heard that he/they had actually closed on the property, this just confirms it.

The Avenue of the Arts is a failure, because Philadelphians don't care about art, unless it's Billy Joel at the Kimmell Center for $100
a pop...maybe if they put a soft pretzel/cheesesteak museum on Broad Street that would generate some interest...

I don't know why I'm even responding, but have you seen South Broad at night lately? It's usually pretty packed, but maybe I've only been there on nights when Billy Joel's playing.

yea. I shouldn't respond to a comment like this, but come on now. The Philadelphians that I know and correspond with on a daily basis not only care immensly about art but support it as much as possible.

Even out west we are known as an "artist's" city. Whether its galleries, museums, schools, people....etc.

Ave of the Arts seems very successful and I think the innovative lighting project will highlight that success even more once they get more of the buildings done in the Spring.

Talking out of your azz again? Have you ever been to the opera or the orchestra, or any of the many shows on Broad Street, which have nothing to do with Billy Joel? Funny, when I am at the opera, or the ballet, I see people from all walks of life, and the streets are pretty packed. The restaurants along the way seem to benefit tremendously from their placement nearby.

So, when you don't really know something, shut up. Duetschbag.
