Default The Bells...

Yeah, Rendell or someone was quoted a while ago as saying that the Avenue of the Arts bells were damaged by a lightning strike sometime years ago. Fixing them, they said, would cost over a million dollars. How the hell is this possible? Is the transformer/controls for this system really that major?

I was looking a while back and thought the bells had been taken down - am I right? I hope I am wrong. They really ought to be fixed.

In the meantime, we have the weird lights on the fronts of buildings for the holidays. The lights on the Ritz still don't show up well, even now that the city turned off the street lamp outside the hotel.

I say, more Christmastime decorations on Broad (as well as in all CC) and a revived bell system.

Perhaps an uprising is in order?

The Ritz lighting was only to enhance the building style. It wasn't like the rest of the lightnings.

I bring you my photos

It was at one point proposed for Broad and Washington, but I believe last I heard it was somewhere on North Broad, although I don't recall where, or if that's the most recent news.

This article was the last I have heard of it...

http://www.philly.com/philly/news/breaking/8233552.html

But I have not heard anything since. But I guess six months is not that long to be quiet about such a project.

The Ballet's move was also mentioned in the Business Journal's article about North Broad Street revitalization last month:

Right, so I guess they haven't exactly been out of the media.

Anyone know when we might be able to expect some images of what they plan to build? If it is Erdy McHenry, it will probably be pretty wild.
