Default illustration of new tower next to Ritz & City Hall

a giant banner of the new building illustration went up on the Ritz today in CC : http://www.flickr.com/photos/damonabnormal/456041841/ Is this to be the one that is currently under construction which is I think called 'the residences'?

It's the Residences at the Ritz-Carlton

There is/was also supposed to be another tower closer to Chestnut on this same block, but I think that deal died. I think it was called 1411 or 1441 Chestnut.

Two developers were fighting over this parcel for years after Meridian Plaza, the site of the city's most infamous building fire, was torn down (all 30+ stories of it) piece by piece.

This is what used to occupy that site (on the left).

The building stood like that, burned out after the fire, for about a decade... all because of lawyers.

This was formerly the home of Comcast (then only less than 300 employees). Comcast had to temporarily relocate to 1234 Market Street (SEPTA headquarters) for a while until they got their lease in Centre Square where they are now.

And this is why you should donate to PACCA, not PETA:

In September, PETA made headlines in Vermont and across the nation for asking
Ben & Jerry's ice cream to use human breast milk in their ice cream, instead of cow milk

Default how exciting...

...it should be a spectacular building and will probably greatly accelerate the area immediately around City Hall, especially the 1400 block of chestnut.

well, not that theres anything wrong with that block, i'm just thinkin the residents at the Residences will want to be catered to by the businesses that happen to be a couple blocks away!

I was skating across the street. Some construction worker guy told me the other meridian plaza clones are going condo cause they were tearing up the area by the clothes pin and turning it into some sort of plaza.

It's good though cause condos bring alot of activity.

What? The area by the Clothespin is already a plaza. The buildings around it, Centre Square I and II, are not going condo - or, if they are, the news hasn't been made yet.

They've been rehabbing the Centre Square entrance and lobby for a few months now. No conversion, just a facelift.

I remember Inga Saffron being (rightfully) upset over use of the lower floors for parking. Either they have moved the parking underground, or they have hidden it well. It's an attractive tower.
