Does anyone have knowledge of cosa nostra's history here in Philadephia? Was it ever as significant as in New York?

I don't know much about that stuff, but I can add a cool anecdote. My buddy's father was a mobster who was killed (his mom also OD'ed and died, but that's besides the point). I saw a special on WHYY about the Philly mob once and asked him why he never got involved in that. He started listing his lineup for one of his little league teams, saying either "dead" or "in prison" after each name. Turns out he's the only one of what he refered to as the usual starting 9 who isn't either dead or imprisoned. I had no idea mobsters were that numerous in South Philly at one time. You should hear the stories he tells. Some funny, some not so funny.
