I was overseas this week when this happened and live on the same block. This is not the first violent occurence on our block - almost two years ago a women living a few doors down fom Saturday's victim was brutally raped and almost murdered in her home. There have also been muggings and car break ins.
Weirdly, despite all that, I never feel nervous living on the block as the neighbors are fantastic and friendly and there is a sense of community. Maybe I am just in denial. Coming home from abroad and hearing about the home invasion definitely upset and shocked me. How often have I unloaded groceries with my front door open etc? I hope this man gets nabbed quickly before he traumatizes or hurts someone else. His act certainly seems extremely brazen doing it in broad daylight and without knowing who else was inside (they have a dog too) I will be more vigilant of my surroundings for sure - but I still think the fact that it was Ogden doesn't mean much, that is random, this could have happened anywhere in the city.
