the people behind this came to our office about 5 years ago trying to get us on board with them. at the time they were marketing it towards specific industries like the real estate market. the firm I was at, at the time did 3d rendering animation and interactive simulations. we had a similar model built of Philly and they were looking for a partnership.
back then you could walk (or fly) through the city and select an apartment from the exterior of any building. It would then tell you all sorts of data, selling price, sq. ft., etc. you could also jump up to it and look back at the view.
seems they've gone on their own now with a more universal approach. Our question then and now was why would we need a virtual Philly when the real thing was right outside?
their models are done with photo-grammetry which while fairly accurate are more for speed of reproduction then high quality. haven't had time to download it yet an play with this version.
