I walk north broad st quite frequently and used it as my main means of getting to cc when I lived up there. you will find it is the best, and safest way to walk to center city...and the north portico in city hall is the nicest. since city hall is open until 10 pm these days and open on weekends, you may actually use it. North Broad St doesn't smell like urine (the worst subway stations I've smelled in Philly are in center city with the worst being mine, 11th st).
