I had read this the other day and forgot to post it. It was rather poignant because I was just speaking to a friend of mine about this very thing.
The US isn't perfect. There are some things the government has done at times that were wrong (which actions differ based on who you ask). Unfortunately, many outside, and inside, the United States grossly overlooks the amount of charity we do ... at the government level and personal level.
The people of the United States are at their core givers and the actions of our government emulate and portray this. Regardless of the flaws, we really try to be there for others.
It does make me proud that a lot of the views of morality that founded our country and grew with it continue to this day.
I recommend people read this article. I am sure some will want to use it as a stepping stone to express the bad things and wrongs of the country, but that is not the point. The point is to at least take a moment to acknowledge the good the US does.
