I have raw notes, but the meeting was followed by Yello'bar quizzo for me, so it may be a day or so before I have mine up. Short form: Officer Holmes, a member of the community relations team at the 17th, gave some crime updates but a lot more information on upcoming programs that work with youth. Plenty of opportunity for volunteers. He also showed us some really really realistic-looking toy guns. New website is launched and the web address is propagating so we should be able to see something at
http://www.southofsouth.org/ within the next 24-48 hours. Details of the first SOSNA greening competitive awards will be up on said website. There's also a citywide "City Gardens" competition sponsored by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (see
http://www.pennhort.org/ for more info on that).
Ready Willing & Able has prepared a proposal for monthly cleaning of the numbered streets and the major east-west streets in our neighborhood. Issues raised included finding ways to involve the smaller streets and finding sustainable funding sources for this work.
So that's it in a nutshell. Looked to me like about 30-40 people in the room but I didn't count noses.
