Not everyone reads Phillyblog every day, either.
I think the problem of finding parenting opportunities that allow for the stereotypical Mon-Fri 9-5 working schedule is a real one, but I also think that for parents of small children a daytime playdate is preferable to an evening one, whenever possible. There's no reason a rich and vibrant and diverse neighborhood such as ours can't support both kinds of scheduling.
(Back in the 70s, I lived out in BitterGate country for a time and was a working mother. The schools simply didn't get the idea that it was a real hardship to drive 25 miles back from work to go to a parent-teacher conference blithely set for 1 pm, and then drive 25 miles back to work to finish my workday. Could they schedule my conferences for the beginning or the end of the days? Noooooo...)
