Check out the City Planning Commission's updated plan for Germantown just posted on the Gtown, Mt. Airy, Chestnut Hill board. Among the Planning Commissions recommendations for Wayne Junction is the following:
6. Complete rehabilitation of Wayne Junction Station including the preservation of the historic headhouses
At present SEPTA is trying to clear the way for demolition of the principal headhouse which is described as Significant on the National Registration of Historic Sites.
The building does not impede or intefere with any ADA accessibility improvements to the site. Demolishing it will do nothing more than leave an open space on the platform and remove one more vestige of Germantown.
If you are concerned about the history of Germantown - and Philadelphia - being taken down in front of your eyes, please register your concern with SEPTA or comment on this site.
