Default Guess I can't secure my home anymore...

Under "Requirements for both New Construction and Alterations" it reads:

"(.3) Exterior security grills are not permitted on windows
and doors."

I've lived in this neighborhood for around 10 years and I love it, but we all know there's a crime problem. It wasn't all that long ago that there was a double homicide not 50 feet from my house (5th & Montrose) - and yet...

How on earth can it be legal for the city to say how I can or can not secure my home if they're unable to provide me with a safe environment?

I have bars on my first floor windows, and a pretty sturdy storm door. I'm not sure if my door classifies as a security grill, but I'm sure what I have on my windows does. Does this mean that if I ever want to make changes to the outside of my home that I have to take the bars down? That's absolutely insane.

Improving my home's appearance is good for the whole block - penalizing me for that is shameful.

We need to get organized. Print out petition letters, take them around to your neighbors, tell them why you oppose this ridiculous legislation. Call Councilman DiCicco's office - make sure he knows how you feel - while you're at it call QVNA and do the same.

If anyone wants to work on this with me feel free to drop me an email - darrellhyde@gmail.com.
