Having friends in NYC who lived there during the 70s and 80s and 90s....a "drug dealing" space in a office or store front is NOT that unusual....

Friend rented a place that was originally used for that type of "business". Lots of armored doors everywhere... Took a while to get the place clean up for his business (dentist).
